WORKING TOGETHER TO SAFEGUARD OUR CHILDREN

The staff and governors of New Invention Learning Academy recognise that the safety, welfare and care of children is paramount. We are therefore committed to the highest standards in protecting and safeguarding the children entrusted to our care at all times. Meeting this objective is done through providing a safe environment for our children to learn in and by identifying children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and taking appropriate action, with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home and in the education setting. Adults in our school take all welfare concerns seriously and encourage children and young people to talk to us about anything that may worry them.

Our school's designated safeguarding leads are:

  • Mr A Pearson (Headteacher)

  • Mrs K Rowley

Our deputy safeguarding leads are:

  • Mr R Bould (Deputy Head)

  • Mrs E Waterhouse (SENCO/Assistant Head)

If you have concerns about a child you can call the MASH team for advice on: 0300 555 2866. (*Multi agency safeguarding hub).

The Underwear Rule

Simple, relaxed conversations with your child can really help to keep them safe. The underwear rule is one way we can work together to prevent child abuse.

At NILA we teach the NSPCC’s underwear rule using the ‘PANTS’ acrostic. PANTS stands for

  • Privates are private

  • Always remember your body belongs to you

  • No means no

  • Talk about secrets that upset you

  • Speak up, someone can help

The NSPCC website has a wide range of resources and guidance to help support families to introduce the underwear rule at home.

Speak Out. Stay Safe.

At NILA we also use the NSPCC Speak out. Stay safe programme with our children.

Speak out Stay safe is an online safeguarding programme for children aged 5- to 11-years-old.

The programme helps our children to understand:

  • abuse in all its forms and how to recognise signs of abuse

  • that abuse is never a child’s fault and that they have the right to be safe

  • where to get help and the sources of help available to them, including Childline.
